PATH ONE:   The Florida State Legislature Passes Mandatory E-Verify in 2017 – FAILED

Floridians for Immigration has worked for a decade now to have the Florida State Legislature address Florida’s Illegal Immigration crisis by enacting immigration enforcement legislation. To date, Republican leadership has blocked over thirty immigration enforcement bills meant to protect Floridians from the negative effects of illegal immigration. The Legislature has passed pro illegal alien In-State Tuition and legislation to allow illegal aliens to practice law in Florida.

2017 Legislative Session Timeline

  • 11/9/2016 Floridians for Immigration Enforce began the process of drafting an E-Verify bill for the 2017 legislative session
  • 11/22/2016 Representative Joe Gruters agreed to sponsor the House bill. We began to reach out to Republican Senators we felt were the best candidates to be Senate Sponsors
  • Senator Bean puts our E-Verify bill into drafting before deadline
  • We continued to reach out to Senate members for sponsorship to no avail until the deadline to file bills on March 3, 2017
  • 2/17/2017 We had a meeting with Senate President Joe Negron to solicit his help in finding a Senate Sponsor. Senator Negron stated that he supported E-Verify in the past and would vote for it if it came up, but would not assist in finding a Senate Sponsor.
  • 2/28/2017 Our Legislative Director, Jack Oliver wrote a follow-up letter asking “You have been in the Senate for a long time and are aware of all the negative effects of illegal immigration on Floridians including job loss, wage decline, increased crime, and the annual negative fiscal impact of 5.3 billion dollars. The question we didn’t have an opportunity to ask was. “Knowing all these facts, why isn’t mandatory E-Verify on the top of your legislative agenda for 2017?” Click here to see the letter.

THIS SHOULD BE TROUBLING TO ALL FLORIDIANS

Fact: Republicans have held the Governor’s office and controlled the Florida state legislature for the last decade while a million illegal aliens openly live and work in our state.

Fact: Illegal Immigration is costing Floridians 5.2 billion dollars a year

Fact: Poll after poll show that over 75% of Floridians identify illegal immigration as a serious problem and they want worksite enforcement.

WHAT HAS OUR REPUBLICAN LEADERSHIP DONE TO PROTECT FLORIDIAN’S JOBS AND TAXDOLLARS?

THEY HAVE BLOCKED EVERY ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION BILL MEANT TO PROTECT JOBS AND TAXDOLLARS OF FLORIDIANS!
